Echo Canyon River Expeditions is one of the oldest and largest tourism companies on Colorado’s Arkansas River. The resort offers a variety of whitewater rafting adventures, an array of accommodations – including newly constructed luxury cabins with expansive views of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range – glamping tents and campsites, full-service restaurant and event space.
Whitewater Rafting and Float Trips
It all started on the river, and whitewater rafting remains the mainstay of the company’s offerings. Rafting season with Echo Canyon typically begins in late April and ends in September, and whitewater experiences change significantly during the season. Spring snowmelt results in fast river flows, and early-season rafting is a favorite time for adrenaline junkies. Summer brings calmer waters, making it a perfect season for families and soft adventure travelers.
Echo Canyon offers full-, half- and multi-day adventures for experienced rafters seeking big rapids and fast water as well as calm water for enthusiasts who prefer family-friendly floats that allow them to soak in the scenery and look for wildlife such as the region’s abundant Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep. Full-day trips include steaks grilled riverside and an array of freshly prepared items served by the Echo crew.
New in 2017 are nine luxury cabins – available for year-round adventures – and four glamping tents, all with panoramic, southwest-facing views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the southernmost subrange of the Rocky Mountains. The resort also offers pull-through RV sites with full hookups as well as tent sites and platform tent sites. Also available is a three-bedroom, two-bath vacation home. The campground is served by a shower house and laundry room.

Six king loft cabins feature two bedrooms and one and one-half baths and three king cabins feature one bedroom and bathroom. The cabins also offer fully equipped kitchens and living areas that have been carefully designed and decorated to maximize the use of the space. They are decorated in an understated contemporary mountain style.

The cabins all feature distinctive double-sided gas fireplaces to add warmth and ambiance to the interior and exterior. Each with its own private parking areas, the cabins have been carefully sited to allow for maximize privacy and views.
Echo Canyon takes tremendous pride in its food both on and off the river. The fun and funky 8 Mile Bar and Grill features fresh and local cuisine with full entrees, salads, sandwiches, burgers and fish tacos that always taste great after a day on the river. The popular bar offers 16 taps featuring Colorado beers along with some traditional favorites.

The resort’s signature group program is the “The Battle of the Bighorn™” and is available from May through September. The fun, and at times silly, program features a minimum of three teams partaking in various activities related to rafting. Examples include the “Helmet Brigade” where teams fill up buckets carrying water in their helmets which are vented with large holes, navigating stretches of the river with upside down paddles, memory games and inflating and carrying rafts.
