For Immediate Release
CAÑON CITY, Colo., January 18, 2017 – Echo Canyon River Expeditions is moving the accommodations scene in Colorado’s Pikes Peak Country up a few notches with the addition of nine luxury Royal Gorge Cabins and four glamping tents to its resort offerings.
Celebrating its 40th season this year, Echo Canyon is one of the oldest and largest tourism companies in the region and is known for its array of rafting adventures on the Arkansas River.
Construction is well underway on the nine luxury Royal Gorge Cabins and four glamping tents, and completion is scheduled prior to the start of the whitewater rafting season in late April. The luxury cabins will be available for rent year-round, and glamping tents will be available during the rafting season, which typically lasts through September.
“With the addition of the Royal Gorge Cabins, travelers to this popular region will finally have the option of luxury overnight accommodations, something our guests have long requested,” said Andy Neinas, owner of Echo Canyon River Expeditions. “Our goal with the design of the cabins was to let the outside in, and each cabin maximizes privacy and the expansive southwest-facing views of the mountain range.”
Neinas said the cabins will likely be especially popular with couples seeking a romantic getaway and corporate groups staging meetings and events such as the resort’s signature teambuilding program, The Battle of the Bighorn. ™ He also expects to see families enjoy the two-bedroom loft cabins, especially those cabins situated in a side-by-side configuration to create a courtyard effect.
Echo Canyon partnered with Boulder, Colo.-based Railton McEvoy Architects and Colorado Springs-based Blackmouth Builders to develop the cabins.
About the Royal Gorge Cabins
The cabins include six two-story, 800-square-foot, two-bedroom, one-and one-half-bathroom loft cabins and three 600-square-foot, one-bedroom, one-bathroom king cabins. Cabins also feature queen sofa sleepers for a maximum capacity of six occupants in the loft cabins and four occupants in the one-story cabins. All of the cabins have expansive southwest-facing views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
The loft cabins feature an upstairs bedroom with a king bed, half-bathroom, closet, dresser, side table and flat-screen television. Downstairs, there is another king bedroom and a full bath with spa shower.
The living areas also include a fully equipped galley-style kitchen, flat-screen television, eat-in granite bar and leather couches.
A highlight of each cabin is an ambiance-maximizing double-sided gas fireplace that can be enjoyed inside and outside and 400 square feet of outdoor living space featuring drought-tolerant plantings such as blue fescue and Karl Forster grasses.
Each cabin also offers two private parking spaces, covered entry way, hammock, bean bag toss games and outdoor grills. The two-bedroom units also feature horseshoes.
The luxury cabins will be decorated in contemporary mountain style with fireplace mantles created from locally sourced timber from the original Royal Gorge Bridge, which was replaced after wildfires destroyed much of the park in 2013.
Each cabin bears a name inspired by the rapids or certain river locations that guests experience when they enjoy a rafting trip with Echo Canyon. Names are Wake Up, Sunshine, Corner Pocket, Spikebuck, Three Rocks, Cottonwood, Tin Cup, Texas Creek and Bootlegger. Glamping tents will also have river-related names.
During peak season (Memorial Day to Labor Day) the single king cabins will be priced at $295 per night Sunday through Thursday and $335 on weekends. Double king loft cabins will be priced at $345 Sunday through Thursday and $385 on weekends. Prices are reduced during the shoulder seasons before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. Prices are higher during the holiday weekends of Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day.
About the Glamping Tents
The four glamping tents are a good choice for travelers who like the close-to-nature appeal of camping but prefer more privacy as well as a comfortable bed. Situated in the resort’s campground, the tents accommodate up to four people and feature two queen beds with linens, screened windows, private porch, picnic table and fire ring, multiple electrical outlets and free Wi-Fi. Community bathrooms are located near the cabins.
Glamping tents will cost $149 Sunday through Thursday and $159 on weekends during peak season and $149 daily – including weekends – during shoulder seasons.
