Mesereau Travel Public Relations has been providing public relations services exclusively to the travel industry since 1996. As a principal-run agency with two senior-level professionals, Fort Collins, Colo.-based Mesereau Travel Public Relations provides a full range of public relations services including message development, media relations including one-on-one media initiatives, news releases, special events and group and individual press trips.
Basics. I have been promoting and reporting on the travel industry for more than 30 years. As a trade magazine editor, I reported on the hotel industry. As a corporate PR executive I promoted a 40-property luxury hotel chain and the country’s largest hotel-management company. Tom and I formed Mesereau Travel Public Relations in 1996, and many of our clients have been with us for years. I have a journalism degree from Bowling Green State University.
What makes me happy. Beautiful stories about the beautiful places we represent. Happy clients. Road trips.
PR philosophies. Experience counts (those relationships with media weren’t built in a day or even a decade). Authenticity sells. PR offers the biggest marketing-dollar bang for the fewest bucks. The more things change the more things stay the same. The media world has changed, but the fundamentals of working with media (blogs, online, print, television, radio, social) remain the same. Tell the story. Respond quickly. Follow up. Repeat.
Favorite travel quote. “Tourists don’t know where they’ve been, travelers don’t know where they’re going.” – Paul Theroux
Basics. As a PR professional I have been promoting destinations on behalf of our clients since 1996 as one half of Mesereau Travel Public Relations. Prior to that time, I helped bring together freight forwarders and customs brokers from around the world as director of marketing for an international organization. My career got its start as an editor of BodyShop Business, a startup trade magazine in the automotive aftermarket that became the leader in its market segment. I am a Certified International Tour Manager. I earned my bachelor’s degree in journalism at Ohio University in Athens, OH.
Why PR in Travel/Hospitality? I truly believe we as a society are on the right track as long as we meet new people, try new foods, hike new trails and add new stamps to our National Park Passports. Oh yeah, and try new craft beers.
PR Philosophies. The message is paramount. If writers – and by extension, their readers – are to take us seriously, we need to present our clients’ messages clearly and thoughtfully.
